Students from kindergarten through fifth grade come weekly to the library. Each student is allowed to bring home books for a week and then return or renew them the following week. Besides checking out books, students receive a variety of information such as how to use libraries and locate items, hands-on technology to facilitate their learning, best practices for research, book talks, and of course, story time.
Our library operates like a public library. Books are checked out with due dates, and late notices are sent when applicable. Books range from pre-k to sixth grade level and children have access to all materials. I am the facilitator of the library, and along with their teachers, always encourage children to choose books that are at their level and interest. I love talking with parents about helping their children choose books as parents are their own child’s best guides.
